Missing Blessings

How many blessings do we miss out on because of our disobedience to God? 


God gives us instructions on things that concern our lives. He tells us what to do, but because it’s not what we want to do, or it’s not the way we feel like it should be done we disobey God.


Have you ever considered that God tells us specific things to do, because there is something that he is trying to accomplish in our lives?


But because we don’t understand we decide to do things our way because it’s is comfortable for us, or we feel like it should be done a different way.  


I have learned in my walk with God, that sometimes God gets us out of our comfort zone, because he has something greater for us, but we must learn to be obedient to his instructions. 


When we are not obedient to what God says, even if it’s uncomfortable for us, we are outside Gods will and we loose out on whatever blessings he has for us. 


Proverbs 3: 5 & 6 will always be one of my favorite scriptures. It says 

  


“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”


Understand something, when we trust in God and we do what he says, it shows our obedience to God and his will for our lives. 


When we lean to our own understanding, we are showing disobedience, because we would rather do what we feel is right,then do what God tells us. 


But if we trust in God and do what he tells us to do, he will put us on the path to receive the blessing he has for us. 




The best example is in 1 Samuel 15:1-26.  


God had told Saul through Samuel to go and destroy the city of Amealek. God did not want anything to survive. He wanted everything from man to animal destroyed.  

   

So Saul went to the city of Amealek and destroyed part of the city, but he did not destroy the king, and he the best of the animals he kept.


This showed Saul disobedience to God, because he told him to destroy EVERYTHING. Saul kept the king alive and he kept the best of the animals, But God wanted it at all gone. 


So when Samuel confronted Saul for going against the voice of the Lord, he made the excuse of the people using the animals as a sacrifice unto God. 


So, because of Saul’s disobedience to God, he was rejected by God to become king over Israel. 

  But I love Samuel response in 1 Samuel 15:22. It says 


“And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”


Saul had already had the blessing, because God had already appointed him king over Israel.  He was already taking him down the path to his blessings.


But because of his disobedience to God, he lost that blessing, because he leaned to his own understanding, and didn’t trust what God had told him to do. 



It is not for us to understand God plan. It is for us to be obedient to Gods will, then he will show what his plan was, and show how his plan was a blessing to our lives. 


God speaks to us and tell us things because he wants us to obey him and do what he tells us to do. When we obey, that’s when God is able to bless us, but when we disobey God,  that is when whatever blessing that God may have had for us is lost.


I pray that we lean to obey God in all aspects of our lives, so we don't miss out on the blessing he has in store for us.

How to become better for 2026

As we are a few days into the New Year, I want us to keep a few things in mind. We need to Keep God first.                    The most important thing is that we need to make sure we are keeping God first in our lives. One way we can do that is to make sure we are spending more time with God. As much as we spend time looking at social media feeds, we need to spend that time talking to God.     Studying Gods word is one way we can spend more time with him. When we spend time in the bible, we get a better understanding of who God is to us and what he truly means to us. It shows us what God has for our lives and how we can achieve what the calling he has for our lives.  We must take time also in prayer.  But we have to make sure that it is not a one sided conversation.
