Knowing Self Worth

Know your Worth

As a little girl growing up in North Carolina, I have always had a thought of who I am and who I wanted to be when I grew up.

I knew I wanted to be in the nursing field, and I knew I wanted to go into the military. That was my dream to wear an Air Force or Navy uniform. I knew I would look good in one of those.

But as I got older, I found myself letting others dictate to me how I was going to live my life and who I was going to become. It took me a long time to realize that I needed to change the way I saw myself.

For a long time, I did not know my worth.

The meaning of Knowing Your Worth.

You may be asking yourself,

“What does know my worth means?”

Well, I am glad you ask.

Knowing your worth simply means how you value yourself, or how you see yourself NO MATTER how others may value you.

Often, we let people have a say so in who we are and how we perceive ourselves.

We allow them to tell us where to go, how to get there, which way is up, and which way is down. Some of us, that is all we know that is how we grew up.

We were used to letting people’s opinion of us define how we see ourselves.

But we never stop to maybe think about how it is affecting our outlook on ourselves in the long run.

You are better than your situation.

I remember a young lady I came across in my line of work. She was having a baby by a man who was no good for her. You could tell he was bad for her life by the nasty way he talked to her and treated her. I mean he was using some very ugly language to her.

He called her ugly, he said she was dumb, and nobody would ever want to be with her. That made me very upset.

I had the opportunity to talk to her and I asked her why he allowed him to treat her that way?

She informed me that he loved her and that is just how he talked to her. She was afraid of losing him, because she was having his baby and she did not want to do it by herself like his first child’s mother who he was not taking care of.

I just looked her in the eyes and asked her a simple question. I said, “If he is not taking care his first child, what makes you think he will take care of your child.?”

True it was kind of harsh to say, but I wanted her to know she was better than her situation.  She did not have to stay in a relationship with someone who did know value her as a person, or even the mother of his child.

After I talked to her she kicked him out and went on about her life. She realized she was more important to herself, then to him.

 Define your own Self Worth

It is time for us to start loving ourselves. Worrying about what others may say or thing about us is bad for us. We will never began to live our lives the way we want to, if we worry about others. Their opinion of us is irrelevant.

Here are a few things you must know within your heart to know how valuable you are to yourself:

1.     Know that no one has the right to make you feel like you are a bad person because you are not doing what they feel like you should be doing.

2.     Never let anyone put in your mind that you are worthless just because they want to make you feel bad.

And the most important thing

3.     Know without a shadow of doubt:

 YOUR OWN SELF WORTH!!

God Bless!
